Interesting pictures from Fiji:
Pretty lush trees that live in sea water
But look at those roots

Look a little closer. These roots are designed for the trees to survive whether the tide is in or out, almost like a beach house built on stilts. When the tide is in, the roots are covered. When the tide is out, the roots are exposed. These are Mangrove trees. Yes, they grow in huge groves reaching right out to the ocean. That is why there is only one beach by Labasa. The rest of the shoreline is lined with Mangrove trees.

Gleaning rice after the tractor has come through and left.

A perfect townhouse. In real life, it is Roxi's favorite color. I had to take a picture. The camera corrected the color a little and made it almost my favorite color.

Cassava is used here like potatoes in America. After they cut down the tall cassava plants and pull the roots up to eat, they cut the branches into pieces and shove the sticks back into the ground to grow another plant.

This picture shows cassava in four stages with palm trees in the background.
